I’ll be there! I become more prayerful for the facilitators, attendees and speakers as the days draw near. I’m not fully decided on which sessions to attend -sometimes I change at the last moment. I’m leaning toward Bonnie Buckingham’s Poetry session. My boys have met with the different forms of English poetry –and tried their hand at some– but I’ve never asked for a term exam answer written in ballad or blank verse. I’d like to be sure I have a correct understanding so I’m not just setting them up for frustration.
I’ll be there as well. I really haven’t decided what I will do. I glanced over the schedule the other day. I always enjoy gleaning from Nicole. We are loving her science guides.
If I had to choose today, I would do the nature study immersion, because I am really trying to be more intentional about it this term. But we have also struggled some with mathematics around here, so that immersion isn’t completely off the list. I hadn’t considered the poetry session until you mentioned it Richele, and looking at the description, it looks delightful. My children take pleasure in poetry. Several days ago, my son sang his narration of Constable’s life to the tune of John Henry. That was a joy-filled moment.
The science session would be beneficial for me I am sure. Science has always been somewhat daunting to me as a teacher; however, each session holds possibility, so I am praying that I will choose that which would truly benefit me and my children.
Mostly, I am looking forward to meeting other mothers who use Charlotte Mason methods in their home schools.
Oh, and I am happily choosing audio books to listen to because I have a long drive. Anne of Green Gables (an old favorite) is on the list.
Oh, yes, all the sessions look so good. Prayerful decisions for all of us.
I was keeping it a fun surprise but if it helps in your planning, Outdoor Geography will be part of the math immersion. If you don’t come, feel free to grab my handouts for it. We will be heading outside to experience some of the practical things you can be doing on your nature/geography walks that will benefit later endeavors in math.
I can’t wait to meet you both. Rachel, you don’t have a profile picture so you will have to be sure to introduce yourself to me. Add a few years and glasses to my pic to recognize me 😉
We have a 12.5 hr. drive with the whole family so the audio books are a great idea. It’s our first time in NC and it’s been a dream of my Russian husband’s to visit.
There will be a mix of things to help keep us all fresh and a break or two. It won’t be three hours of math, I promise. I’m assuming there will be a lot of questions so there will be time for that as well.
It’s the Grace to Build Retreat, a CM retreat in North Carolina. It is unaffiliated and this is just its second year. Both Sonya and Nancy Kelly spoke last year. More info at Gracetobuildretreat.com
Thanks, Richele. I wandered over to the website, and then I clicked on the venue link…..wow, that place looks beautiful! The idea of spending a weekend gleaning more about CM methods & philosophy of education in such a setting at this time of year sounds just heavenly….
I am going to Grace to Build too! I am super excited! I live in Charlottesville, VA so the drive is only about 5 1/2 hours. I have not yet decided which sessions I will be attending; there are so many great choices! I am really looking forward to meeting all these wonderful CM ladies! I have been inspired by their posts on here, their podcasts, and their books. Counting down the days…
I’ve decided not to go to GTB this year. I emailed Brittney yesterday and she promptly found someone on the long waiting list to take my place. I’ll miss meeting you, Richelle. That was one of the main reasons I was going. But things have been so very busy and, honestly, I just want to be home. It’s a wonderful retreat and I know it will bless those who attend.
Oh, Robin, I will truly miss meeting you as well and hope one day that will happen. Enjoy being home with your family. I’m happy for that for you and also happy that you are in an area where you have opportunity to be with other CMers.
I am excited to meet all of these wonderful CM ladies as well. I’m praying that we all arrive safely in North Carolina.
Robin,
I decided to go to GTB on your recommendation. After all, the books you recommend always end up as favorites in our household. It would be nice to meet you in person some day, but I understand staying at home with family. I wish you well.
Richele,
I’m looking forward to meeting you. Your mathematics handbookl inspires me as a teacher. I’ll be praying for you as you travel and speak.
I would love to meet all of you. This forum is such a place of encouragement and that retreat is as well. It was very difficult for me to back out. It’s only about an hour and a half away and I’ve been nowhere this year. But the timing just was very bad with other things going on I wasn’t expecting when I registered. Praying safe travels and a blessed time for everyone.
