Using Mod 5 this year, Bookworm, you suggested doing govt while doing early American history. Do you have books or spines you would recommend for high school govt?
My teens attend TeenPact for government. At first I didn’t think I would count it as credit but it was worth it for the academics and mure importantly their personal development.
Not Bookworm but thought I’d throw this out as an option.
My daugther started Module 5 this week and for Government we’re doing a course from the National Center for Constitutional Studies It comes in two parts and while these can be done in a year [actually in one semester if you want to spend almost two hours per class]….we are taking two years to work through the lessons. Doing one chapter a week. I’ve not come across anything else that covers this in such depth. This is my fourth child to go through Government.
There are video lectures to watch along with a ‘text’ book to read. I also like that it asks the child to find one current event or issue a week that relates to the different Principles of Liberty they are learning. The child will also memorize the Constitution in the second half. Part one contains 27 lesson and part two contains approx. 43 lessons, for a total of 70 lessons.
I am going through the course alongside my daughter and we’ve only done Chapter 1 so I can’t say much more other than it’s the first curriculum I’ve used with one of my children that has gotten me excited to use.
