I think Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder has some illustrations? I don’t have that book but I know the other Little House books have some every 2-3 pages.
Have you tried The Lighthouse Family by Cynthia Rylant? I believe it is a series of four books, starting with The Storm. Very sweet early chapter books.
James Herriot’s Treasury for Children, and also his Cat Stories or Dog Stories if your son has a favorite
Dolphin Adventure and Dolphin Treasure and there’s also Dolphin Freedom which I don’t think we read. All by Wayne Grover, true stories of his relationship with a dolphin family.
Our version of Pinocchio is illustrated by Sara Fanelli and we LOVE it! This book we read yearly.
The Boxcar Children
Gentle Ben by Walt Morey. Such a great story but maybe not enough images for your son yet. A boy befriends a bear in Alaska. We loved it!! Read Kavik the Wolf Dog afterwards we loved his writing so much.
The Story of Dr Dolittle and the sequel The Voyages of Dr Dolittle if he likes that.
Enjoy!
