Be sure to use the Yesterday’s Classics version of The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. It is wonderful!! There is another one on librivox.org that is by Frank L. Baum (Wizard of Oz) and it just wasn’t the same. It was good, but certainly missed the wonderful spirit of the other one.

We also enjoyed The Birds’ Christmas Carol by Kate Douglas Wiggons. This is offered by YC and is available on librivox.org. It was such a sweet story (but not overly long.)

Ours are still boxed up, and each year we try and add a new picture book.  Some that come to mind (my boys are 6 and 8), Frankie’s Orange (true story), The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree, The Little Fir Tree (about a disabled child), Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree, Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey, Poky Little Puppy’s First Christmas (golden book), Room for a Little One (incredible illustrations). Wanting to wrap them up in fabric (so I can re-use it) and put out, opening one a day in December — if we have enough to do that.

Heather, if you don’t have enough books to do that, try alternating the books with special audio recordings of various Christmas stories and special Christmas videos.  If you look into Old Time Radio recordings meant for family or children’s listening pleasure.  Pre-screen as there are mentions of Santa, etc. so some families may wish to avoid them.
