Good binoculars

This was our second year doing the backyard bird count, my 4 year old just loves birds. I got a free iPhone app about 150 most common birds, with beautiful pictures, bird calls and info. And I got the eBird app for $1 so we can immediately enter our bird finds!

I’ve been trying to use a 40 year old pair of binoculars that I borrowed from my dad. They are so heavy and focus so slowly that I can never find the birds! And she can’t use them at all. I’m looking for a pair of easier to focus binoculars, nothing professional. I asked one lady at the nature center and she told me “you really need good birding binoculars, they’re about $300”. I just stared at her. My kid just likes birds, lady. I’m not writing an article for national geographic here…

Anyway, suggestions, tips, brands, stores (online), welcome.

We bought these ones recently for my children – and we’re all using them! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004SABB/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They are Bushnell Powerview 8×21 Compact Folding Roof Prism Binoculars. We’re very much amateurs and these are lightweight which mattered to hand them over to my kiddos. The only ones who don’t have their own are the 1 and 2 year old, but the 3yo does (and uses them), as do the 5, 7, 8, 11yo.

Thanks for the great reviews and info. After I posted this, I played around on Amazon, and I found both of the Bushnell binoculars mentioned above! So I will likely be getting one or both of them.
