Thought you’d appreciate this article as character training is often a topic.

Thank you for sharing! This was a much needed reminder on being patient because building character cannot be rushed! 🙂

I need to work on letting go of the chart mentality myself!

I was just looking at Doorpost and it looks like they use a lot of charts used in public schools. Anyone knows how it would differ?

Wrote down the 3R’s and will go over that w/my kids…

We used some of Doorposts materials when our older children were young. Looking back, it seems like it focussed more on what they were doing wring than what they were doing right. Maybe that was the way I was using the charts/books, but it seemed that the focus was catching them doing something wrong, and going to a chart for consequences (punishment.)

I think (read hope) switching to a focus on character/habit training with the expectancy focus is a more grace filled approach. It sets them up for success instead of failure.

    Just a thought,

    That is what I thought.

Any suggestions on books to learn that approach apart from LDTR?

    I so need the change!!

I am reading seasons in a mother’s heart right now, hoping that helps!!

Try reading ‘Gentle Measures’. I think the first half is beyond brilliant – I’m in a section now that I don’t relate to as much but I need to get back to it to see how it ends. I believe it is free on Kindle.
