I’m looking for another good book written about Gods calling for women..as a wife and a mother. I would love to hear your favorites on this. My fav so far is “Created to be His Helpmeet” by Debi Pearl.
Anyone care to share?

Books by Edith Shaeffer and Nancy Wilson (see Veritas Press), The Family by J.R. Miller (see Vision Forum), plus there are so many at Solid Ground Publishers that I want to read (so I cannot recommend them per se, but I will recommend that publisher).

In order to save you a little money, you can find “Home Making” by JR Miller free online. It’s a great read!

I’ve recently enjoyed The Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson. So encouraging, and delivered in a storytelling type of way from her own experiences which makes it a pleasure to read and absorb.

I have to second the Sally Clarkson suggestion. I absolutely loved Elizabeth George’s A Woman After God’s Own Heart but have not heard of A Mom’s….. I will have to find a copy.
I also really enjoyed Stepping Heavenward (it’s one of my all time favorite books…..I really am due for a reread ;-)).

Several years ago I did word study in my Bible for wife, mother, woman, home and children. I wrote out each of the verses I found. Every once in a while I reread these verses. What an encouragement to have God’s view of our calling written out and in one place. We really can’t do better than God’s word!

Amen JenB!! So many times I read someone else’s ideas as to what motherhood and being a godly wife looks like and I take on their interpretation instead of just asking God what this looks like for me in my current circumstances. I’m curious what process you used to do your word study.

Well, I was saved as an adult after marriage and my husband still isn’t saved so my verse that I cling to has been 1Corinthians 7:13, 14 and 16
“And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and is willing to live with her, than she must not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife…otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are Holy.”
“How do you know wife, whether you will save your husband?”

Also, some good ones are Ephesians 5: 22-24

Thanks for sharing. In answer to your question, first remember that it’s Gods job to save your husband, not yours. I don’t think you can know for sure whether or not he will be saved, but you can continue to put your hope in God, pray and trust His Word. 1 Peter 1-5 may be one you want to cling to as well…..for it does say… ‘they may be won over….” There is great hope in this.
Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewellery and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

Hello mj,

The method I used for word study was certainly nothing fancy…just picked a word and found all the verses I could that pertained to it. I used a Thompson Chain Reference Bible to look up wife, mother, woman, home and children and wrote out the verses over several days.

And Hi csmamma,

Two different passages stick out in my mind, especially in this time of my life…

Titus 2:3-5
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

and…

1 Timothy 5:9-10
No widow may be put on the list of widows unless she is over 60, has been faithful to her husband, and is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the saints, helping those in trouble and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds.

My mouth dropped open at the second one. The way we live our lives now matters to God later. We have a real calling. We are children of God, wives and mothers first and foremost not because we’ve got nothing better to do but because God has called us to this.
