Just saw this excerpt from Charlotte on the SCM site and thought of how appropriate it is in all of our curriculum decisions:

Having found the right book, let the master give the book the lead and be content himself with a second place.

Just a great reminder to set the atmosphere of contact with living books and great ideas – and then to get out of the way!

Love it! I’m finding this more important as my children grow, especially with my 6th grader. Yes, the books are wonderful and ones I remember reading and want to talk about, but my children get more from them when I keep my mouth closed and listen to them after they have enjoyed the book themselves. 🙂 I find that they form different relationships to the material than I have. Not better or worse, just different. Always eye-opening!
