I plan on implementing Module One of the History/Geography/Bible next term. I have a friend who is very keen on Winter Promise. I have had a look at it and it looks lovely but I like how SCM puts all three subjects together for the whole family.

Can anyone give some some real life experience advice about this module?

I would also like to know if there are any other Australians on here using the SCM free curriculum guide?

We are In Tasmania Australia and my children are DD12, DS9 and DD 6.

    Thank You 🙂

I’m not in Australia, but I did Module One last year with dd13 and ds10. It was a great year and much less stress than other years where I planned a lot myself or followed other curriculums. What I loved:

Daily schedule rather than weekly. If we miss a day for illness, Fieldtrip, etc. we just do the next day and its not hard to double up sometimes. Weekly schedules had us flipping all over and feeling behind.

Make-up days and Exam days are scheduled.

    Kids on same history topic.

Bible intertwined and covered in 6 yrs.

I also pencil in Truthquest history biblical commentary pages and movie suggestions. I may occasionally add another book or two in hs but haven’t felt the need yet. It’s wonderful as is and I love not spending hours planning these subjects:) HTH some! Gina

I have used both SCM Module 1 and I have used Winter Promise’s Animals and Their World curriculum. I enjoyed both of them, but they are very different. Winter Promise seems to incorporate all the learning styles in their plans. The books they select have beautiful pictures. There are many hands on activities. SCM Module is much more simplified, it has everything you need scheduled out, there are great living books scheduled, they may not have as many pictures for your visual learners. There are hands on activities, but much less Both programs are great for incorporating multiple aged learners. At my current season of life, I really appreciate the simplicity of the SCM modules, they are simple, but plenty of learning. I am excited about the new geography resources they have to offer this year. My plan is to work through the SCM modules in the younger years, and possibly go back to winter promise in the older years if we feel like we need a change. They are both great programs and I don’t think you can wrong with either.

Before I chose Module 1, I considered Hideaway’s in History from WP, but I decided I like the idea of slowing history down for us instead of doing a whirlwind trip through everything in one year. Also, there may be a little more parent prep for WP depending on the program you pick. Hope this helps!
