We have started 3-4 weeks ago w/ the Genesis study and I’m finding that my children ( almost 7 and 5yrs) are not very interested in the Oxford history. Any suggestions how to substitute it at least for this year? Thanks
Sometimes I will read the selected passage for myself and then just open the book and tell them about it while they look at the pictures.
I have also been using the Uborne Internet-Linked Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt. My 6-1/2yo and my almost-5yo seem to enjoy this one a little more. Maybe because the reading sections are broken up a bit more and there are more pictures.
And I also got an Ancient Egypt Treasure Chest for them, and we get that out on the “Egypt days.”
I’m doing Gen – Dueteronomy with my 6 and 4.5 year olds. Here’s a free unit/lapbook study that I found that has a booklist you might want to look through – I haven’t read any of these so you’ll have to check it out to see if they might be more appealing, but it appears that it would be a good filler for Eyptian studies.
I have SOTW (Story of the World) and am using that along side Oxford. It is written in a story format and is very engaging. You can also get the audio CD so the kiddos could listen to this on their own as well as listening to you read, if you so chose. I have yet to get the audio CD, however, a friend has both the CD and the book and her dd who is 8 begs to listen to it – this after having listened to her mom read the book because she found it so engaging (her words were “fun to listen to”).
