My 13-year-old son would like to read some science books that are ‘funny’.  These will probably be in addition to the science text he is using so topic doesn’t really matter (as long as they’re clean!)  He can read most high school level books.

He really liked the style of The Rainbow, but felt like it went too fast and didn’t explain it well enough for him.  He wants books that teach science, but have funny asides or comments, or make jokes about things.

Have you seen the Horrible Science series?   http://www.horrible-science.co.uk/bookseries   You can see inside the books at Amazon.com

They are similar in style to the Horrible History books if you are familiar with them.  My ds loves reading Horrible Histories or watching them on YouTube, but we haven’t tried these Science books yet.

Warning… it is British humour so don’t know if that makes a difference 🙂

He does read the Horrible Histories and likes them, although he has commented that there are a lot of ‘gross’ parts.  My younger boys like the cartoon version and the older boys like the ‘live action’ stuff, but again, it can get a little gross or ‘scary’.

It sounds like he would like the style of Life of Fred and there is a Pre-algebra 1 with Biology.

Maybe the Nick and Tesla series would interest him? You can find the books on Amazon.  For some reason I can’t get the link to work.
