It depends. What are you AIMING for? Do you just want your child to have the vocabulary boost of knowing Greek and Latin word roots? Or do you want the “whole package” of Latin benefits, including English grammar, usage, style, logic, memory, and mental workout?
My oldest did EFTRU in the younger years and Latin for his foreign language in high school. He knew he was going to go into the sciences and wanted the Latin background.
Yes, how would you use EFTRU?? If you have not begun Latin, would you use this first, second, third, never?? I want to start Latin in Aug. with my 13yo (and his younger bros.). I know I’ve asked about Latin alot, but now I’m getting excited about it and feel it is actually doable.
I can’t speak for EFTRU because I have never used it but we did Classical Conversations this year so we got some Latin exposure. I also have two of the Memoria Press programs(Prima Latina and first form Latin) we have used those some but I am going to put those on hold and I am getting “getting started with Latin” this year maybe to be followed by the MP Latin courses. I will reevaluate at the end of year. Sorry that didn’t really answer your question. : / have you looked also at the roots book put out by Critical Thinking Co.sorry I can’t recall the name of them right now) I am planning on getting those for my two olders(15 and 12))
We are using Word Roots by Critical Thinking and I have seen huge gains in our sons’ spellng and word usage. Definitely achieving what I was hoping for in re: to Bookworm’s question–vocab boost of knowing Latin (and Greek as we get into the A2 and B1/2 versions) roots.
We use the CD-Rom version as it is much more economical for multiple students to share and also does the grading for me, which I needed for this season!
