    Hi all-

My husband is wanting to read a “mountain man” American frontier-type story with my boys (almost 6 and almost 8).  I suggested Little House books….not so much.

    What are your suggestions?

The Mr. Tucket series by Gary Paulsen. Ds10 loved it. Dd13 read 4 in a day and I’m reading now. Great books!

Thanks!  I was able to download the first five books from my library.  I think my husband and boys will be thrilled.

And always glad to hear more suggestions. Smile

If you have beginning boy readers they may enjoy the oop Cowboy Sam series or the Frontier Dan series. These were favorites with my son at that stage. I bought these cheaply online. Ds also enjoyed biographies of Daniel Boone, Davey Crockett, Kit Carson, etc. we read landmarks, signature series, and piper biographies of some of these that ds enjoyed. I will say that Mr. Tucket has been the first series my ds LOVED.

The old landmark books have many bios to choose from, such as Lewis and Clark and Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys, to name a few. Conrad Stein is another author. Some people may find his writing dry, but we all liked them.

Just wanted to say we are LOVING the Mr. Tucket series. We are on the last book….and the boys and I can hardly wait for DH to get home so we can find out what happens next. Thanks, Christie. 🙂
