I just received this to use for our next school year and am wondering those of you who have used it, how did you like it?
How many times a week did you use it?
I got it for a 6th and 8th grader.

We do one word a week – we talk about it, the kids write it out like a card (in a notebook – we got Cindy Rushton’s CD for it from a friend) and then we add the cards to our memory boxes and the words are quickly reviewed and memorized throughout the week/year. I have several of the ideas that Missceegee referred to in her post, but haven’t made the games yet. Since the memory box is working, it almost feels like busywork to add a game, but perhaps I can make it be a Friday activitiy. 😉

Sheraz, thanks for sharing how it’s working for you. Do your children write the word, definition, and derivatives? If so, all at once? I’m thinking a pace of 1-2 week will work well for us and I’m debating how much writing to have my crew do. I love the idea of adding it to the memory box!

I will introduce the word and we discuss the page of the teacher’s book, then write them out, so yes, we do them all at once and it takes about 15-25 minutes or so (depending on speed of writer) and the review is about 5 minutes or less a day.
Their notebook words are color-coded just like the cards for easier review. One dd wanted pre-printed pages and the other didn’t. We used a composition notebook for hers and she traces the right color (green or red) for each word. I think that the act of reading it, saying it, and writing it help solidfy the word.
On our daily review cards, we do not re-read all the derivatives on the back – we just do the word/definition/origin. Occassionally, I will ask a suprise question just for fun/review of the derivatives.

Thank you! I don’t know how many days/week we will do but it is good to have an idea of how others are using this!
I am thinking to possibly buy some colored flash cards instead of doing the coloring thing!

If you are only studying the Root Words and not doing a full Latin program… How do you schedule it in the Organizer? Do you put the subject as “Foreign Language” or “Language Arts” or something else? Thanks.
