Can anyone tell me if the closing in a friendly letter should be aligned with the heading or centered? In Intermediate Language Lessons, they show the closing to be centered but I think that as a child, I learned it to be done the other way.

I can’t think of any type of letter where the closing would be centered on the page. I believe that the greeting, all paragraphs, and closing should be indented the same.

I was taught that a business letter had everything aligned, but I always center my closing and signature on a personal letter. I am thinking that if you are typing it, you should probably just align it on the margin (just in case). If I was handwriting a letter or card, though, I would center it. Not sure if that helps, it might be just me…

I agree with ServingwithJoy.  That is how I learned to do it.

Agreeing with ServingwithJoy, also. Good question.
