Found this book at our library Everyday Graces: Child’s Book Of Good Manners Karen Santorum. It’s actually much more about character traits than just please and thank you manners. “features stories and poems that will develop and enrich the moral imagination. This marvelous anthology features classic selections from such well-known authors as Hans Christian Anderson, Beatrix Potter, Mark Twain, Frances Hodgson Burnett, C. S. Lewis, Max Lucado, and Arnold Lobel, as well as forgotten gems that deserve a new hearing.Mrs. Santorum writes that this anthology grew out of the frustration of not being able to find a book on manners that instructs through stories rather than by rules of dos and don’ts.”
Some of the excerpts are pretty short and it makes you want to go and read the whole book it was from! But for younger children it’s perfect. So happy I found something that I can share with great pleasure with my kids ( instead of dreading some of the character books we’ve tried before.)
For those of you who are curious about the author, Mrs. Santorum is a conservative Christian homeschooling mother of seven (one of whom is in heaven), and she is the wife of Rick Santorum, former U.S. Senator and former Republican candidate for President.
We have had this book going on 3 yrs! We love it! I think about giving it away..but then my boys wants to re-read certain poems that they love!
AND,,,didn’t really know the author until this yr when Rick Santorum was running! It was too neat that I had had the book for so long and to see the author’s hubby in the spotlight. Rick even has something in the book that he wrote.
I hightly recommend it. @ momto2blessings, it will be great for your kids. I believe the 13 yr old would get something out of it. There are a lot of passages from older books as well as humorous poems!
