There is not a direct way right now but there are some good alternatives.
There is a link at the bottom of each page that says RSS feed for this topic. There is a similar link for every top level theme that says RSS feed for this theme. If you copy one of those links (right-click on Windows or Control-click on Mac), you can paste it into a feed reader that can notify you of updates.
Some examples:
I use the Mail application that comes with Mac OS X Leopard. It has the ability to subscribe to a feed and show new responses in my mailbox. I don’t think Outlook on Windows has that feature by default but here is an article that explains some possible plug-ins. I’ve never used these so I can’t vouch for them, though.
If you use something like the iGoogle desktop or My Yahoo Web sites, they can subscribe to any RSS feed and show you the latest posts along with your other information. That doesn’t notify you, but if one of those is your home page you’ll see them regularly.
There are some services that will subscribe to RSS feeds for you and then e-mail you any new posts. A good free one is Feed Blitz. There’s a section at the bottom of the page where you can subscribe to any feed. Just paste in the RSS feed URL and it will walk you through creating an account.
I hope that helps. Please let me know if I can clarify anything further.
Actually I just figured out you have to do it for each forum and subforum. Also if the forum does not have any topics yet then you cannot set a RSS feed to it.
Thank you I am setting them up in Thunderbird now.
Sounds like you’ve figured most of it out. The forum software is also supposed to provide a feed for the entire forum, but that is not working right now. I’ll take a look and see if I can get that fixed.
