Looking for some recommendations for folk songs. I was looking on Ambleside Online, and most seemed obscure (at least to me).
My oldest has just started school this year. So we have done: ‘Happy Wanderer’, ‘Over the River and Through the Woods’, ‘Jingle Bells’, and just started ‘Froggie Went A-Courtin’ ‘
We are not very talented singers (yet 😉 ), so simple and able to find versions on youTube is best!

We have been working through Wee Sing America. The first half of the CD/book contains patriotic songs; the second half contains pioneer/cowboy/railroad songs etc. I highly recommend this collection!!

Another good resource is the children’s album by Pete Seegar. My children adore it and so do my husband and I. Elizabeth Mitchell is another artist I so enjoy and she covers many folk songs. Keep on the sunny side, This land is your land, You are my sunshine, Lavenders blue, Down by the riverside, Follow the drinking gourd, The farmer in the dell, Micheal row the boat ashore, Big rock candy mountain (clean version), Home on the range, and We shall overcome are some we like, plus so many more. I like singing nursery rhymes in song form for the littlest ones.

Today my daughter was singing Billie Barlow, and commented that the rat tail probably made him throw up.
We also like Downtown Races, English Country Garden, That’s a Nice Field of Turnips.
(The Outlandish Knight really threw my kids off LOL)

I prefer Wildwood’s Songs over Ambleside Online’s. Its the only thing I use from Wildwood’s website. They have a Specific list for 1B/1st grade that we will be using next year.

We like Pa’s Fiddle and Happy Land cds of music from Laura Ingalls Wilder.
This is a nice song list. Can anyone recommend any albums you like with these songs? I did order a Pete Seegar children cd. Thanks!

Music in Our Homeschool has a folk song course you could sample and see the titles of the songs she chose for it. Gena had all her subscribers vote for their favorites to include.
