My 9yo son would like to do a Flat Stanley project with a homeschooler. Is anyone interested?

If you’re unfamiliar with the project, it’s based on the book Flat Stanely by Jeff Brown. In the project, each child (or family…it can easily be a family project) will make a paper Flat Stanley doll and send it to another family. When you receive the visiting Flat Stanley in the mail, you take photos of him participating in your life and in front of places in your area. Perhaps you’ll take photos of him homeschooling with you, tagging along your day as you run errands, in front of a local landmark, etc. Each family will keep the Flat Stanley for a set time and then mail him back to the original family, along with the photos taken of him while visiting you.

This does involve exchanging addresses, which is why I’m asking for participants here on this board rather than on a message board where I’m not familiar with the people.

My son and I welcome anyone who is interested to send me a private message and we’ll get it set up.

Let me talk to my 10yo…he might like to do this aftr watching his older brother do this when they were in public school.  I think it would be fun to see how many families on here are interested, and if there are enough set up some sort of “chain,” where you keep sending it to the different families who want to do it, and it will eventually make it’s way back to you.  Maybe, I don’t know if that would work, though!

    Great idea, Esby!! Smile

I’m willing to coordinate this if other families want to join in. Anyone interested either in a one-to-one exchange or round robin?

Meagan and I are all set for our kids to exchange Flat Stanleys after mid-March.

Anyone else is welcome to join us then – or even later if you need time to get the book and read it.

I would encourage anyone who is thinking about doing this to do it!  I’ve done this once before when one of our older kids was younger, and they had a blast.  It’s really neat to see aobut different places!

We had so much fun doing this with a cousin.  My son wants to do it again. We would love to do it though we are moving in 2 months, so perhaps it would be best if we get through that first.  Mail takes longer to reach England!

Great! We now have 7 families interested so I think Meagan’s idea of a round robin will work. I’m running out the door now but will PM everyone with details later and answer the questions some of you asked. Watch for my PM later tonight or tomorrow morning. Fun stuff! 🙂
