Hello! I have a question for y’all. Last night a friend gave me her OLD (copyright 1994) homeschool curriculum called “Five in a Row.” I looked online and it’s still out there. Looks PERFECT for Charlotte Mason homeschooling. Basically you read the same children’s picture book five days in a row but each day focus on a different element of study (social studies, science, language arts, applied math). It sounds like a great match for my little whose showing signs of dyslexia. Anyway, I’m definitely interested in using it. Just thought I’d ask if any of you have come across it and liked/disliked it? Would appreciate any advice or direction you have. Thanks!

Loved it! Really fun and flexible so long as you don’t feel like you have to do every single activity suggested. 🙂

I love FIAR! It’s such a sweet, rich and low stress way to teach. My advice would be, know that just doing it as written is enough. Unless, of course, you want to add some picture, artist or nature study. The only other thing you need to add is math and a”learn to read” curriculum when your child is ready. If you join the FIAR forum, the ladies there can answer any questions you may have. Heather Woodie at blogshewrote.org has lots of good planning and general info on FIAR also.
FIAR is a great way tho enjoy your children!

Oh, fabulous! You’ve confirmed what I’ve been reading. Since I have the first volume gifted to me, I’ll order a few of the books and just test it out. If we love it, I’ll order more and go from there. So excited! Thanks!

Love FIAR and still do an occasional book or two with my younger two, who are 7 and 8.

It is wonderful. We did mostly Simply Charlotte Mason for my daughter the first three years. We needed a change but I still wanted CM methods and literature based. FIAR has been a breath of fresh air for both of us so far this year for her 4th grade. She reads many of the extra science books on her own and I am helping her keep a notebook. She is loving the art lessons best and I can see her confidence really increase with each art lesson we finish. And we are doing some of the recipes. It is great for us to enjoy school again. We kept with her math curriculum though, CLE. The Language Arts lessons are perfect for her age now with CM. And I love that we are studying the language arts and art concepts within the context of a published work for examples. Have fun with it!
