    Hi all-

In order to help ME be more active, I have been looking at implementing a more formal PE/fitness curriculum for our family.

I currently have Homeschool Family Fitness – a book with lesson plans and a variety of skills and games, created for use by homeschool families.  I haven’t started it yet; just looking, planning.

Today, I came across Family Time Fitness, a web-based fitness program with all sorts of video support, also created for homeschool families, and not crazy priced, especially with a coupon code.

Has anyone used either of these?  Thoughts?

We started FTF this past winter.  My DC have really enjoyed it (and beg to do it), but I have to confess it is the last item on our list, so it is often skipped.  They are pretty simple activities and there is a video for each of them if you find the directions confusing…I’ve watched several of them and they are helpful.  I just loaded it onto my e-reader, so I’m hoping that will help me get it done (since I won’t have to print out the lesson).

There is an “outdoor” activity/game that can sometimes be done indoors, but is better outdoors.  We often had to skip these this past winter (with 2 feet of snow in our yard), but it’s considered optional.  They are things like play a game of freeze tag, set up an obstical course, or skipping rope.  I haven’t figured out how to safely play freeze tag indoors, but we’ve managed to get the others done.  Now that we have our yard back, I’m hoping to get to more of these games!

It has also been a workout for me!  I’ve been pretty sore after some of the lessons!  Laughing

    Holly,

Do you find that you need a lot of space to do the activities inside?  I’m in MN so at the very least we are covered in snow half the year.  Although, considering we had snow yesterday (May 3!) it feels like a perpetual winter.

Anyway, I’m very interested in this curriculum.

Oh, and do you need a certain number of participants for most games?  I have three kids although I suppose I could play too. Wink

    Thanks,
    Jenny

We have a bigger house, but we’ve been able to do most of the activities in our little toyroom.  Our downstairs has a bit of a circular loop through all the rooms, so we often use that and they do laps around the house.  Most of the activites involve galloping/running/skipping/etc. across the room and back.  If you have room for that, you should be fine!  They’ve also jumped rope, done some animal walks, stretches, played with hula hoops etc.  I have 4 DC, but only 3 are old enough to really play a game (my 3yo does like to join in at her level though).  The games can easily be done with 3…they’ve had hula hoop contests and played tag…I can’t think of anything else.  They really are set up for smaller HS families.

We haven’t done it in awhile since we are so busy with baseball/softball and gymnastics!  Embarassed

I just found this is the last day for a sale on Homeschool Buyer’s Co-op for Family Time Fitness.  This price is down to $39 (regular price is $67).  I just bought it!

No thoughts on either program from me but I wanted to share some ideas for getting fitness going while stuck indoors. Just a few things we have done:

    Mini trampoline

    Chinese Jump Rope

    Regular Jump Rope

Exercise dvds – my kids can do Walk Away the Pounds dvds because the choreography is simple, so they can do it alongside me. TappCore from T-Tapp is for kids too. I just got it so I’ll share more about it after we’ve tried it out. I have the dvds for adults and like them.

Dance – just turn on music and keep moving.

    Hula Hoop

Calisthenics where you track each personal best and compete against your own record.

Just ordered this through the co op! What a great deal! We never got around to any structured physical activities, art, etc this year but we are gonna start this summer.
