Hi there ladies! Not sure if any of you remember but I posted about needing encouragement about having another baby etc. and I want to thank you all for your encouragement! 🙂
I am 8 weeks along now and tired and queasy. My husband has offered to take care of meals but it has been challenging getting a whole lot done. We haven’t done any school for over 2 weeks and I know we need to get that started again. I was wondering what your typical school day is like during first trimester with cleaning, etc.?
I’m not going to be a huge help because while I’ve done this often (just finishing my 8th first trimester) my kiddos go up to age 11 and they take over the housework for me as needed. Basically when my kids were all younger I would get up and dressed, dress kids, and wipe down the kitchen after breakfast. Kids ‘helped’ so they didn’t go get into things and make messes. Then we would do 1-2 things for school. For example I would read a book aloud (literature, history, or science-y) for a few minutes (Audiobooks are wonderful on those super queasy days) and then they would do copywork/phonics for a few minutes. Break time. Breathe. Eat some beans (protein) to help with the nausea. Do 1 chore (switch a load of laundry, sweep 1 floor, pick up 1 room). Then do 1-2 school things. Read another book, do math out loud (math facts, story problems, etc). I would pretty much repeat that until we were done.
First trimester don’t be afraid to cut down to reading aloud only! Listen to scriptures (many free in audio format online) during a meal or snack. Choose a classic book from Librovox’s free audio library and listen to it daily. Read or look through science books every few days together. This is only a season. If you really can’t relax that much then choose 1 other “subject” to do each day (math on monday, history on tuesday, art on wednesday, etc).
This sounds like excellent advice, thanks for the details 🙂 Was wondering how to do school when tired and sick during that season as we are praying about having another. And then how long of a break to take once baby is born? And when you resume, how does that work with nursing baby, naps, etc. (for ex. do you wait until baby naps to do anything? or do read alouds while nursing, and then work one on one for 10-15 min each at naptime? etc.) my boys might be about 6 and 8 if that were to happen this spring.
