We just wanted to let everyone know that we are down to our final stock of the wonderful Creating a Masterpiece DVDs that we recommend for art lessons. The publisher has switched over to offering the videos through online streaming. Our supply of the DVDs is limited to only what we have in stock.
The new format is an all-access subscription to the videos. They’ve set it up so the monthly or annual membership gives you every Creating a Masterpiece lesson for the duration of the subscription.
I agree. It is very disappointing! Since she recommends spreading the lessons out a bit so as to not rush the project we would only do one or two different projects a month. And if life gets away from you and you end up with a half finished pastel picture waiting for you (ahem) you are stuck with shelling out another $40 to finish it. We love the video we got last year! Peaceful Lake. Dd8 made one in the fall and gave it to grandpa for Christmas. She decided to make another for granny’s birthday this year and we would not have been able to do that if we’d had a video subscription. I do understand it is a trade off, access to all videos, but for a limited time. I thought they had a philosophy more along the lines of everyone can make real art, but this seems to move them in the direction of catering to people who are more focused on art and choose to spend more time on it each week than the once a week lessons we do. I did email the company about my concerns a while back but they didn’t respond. I guess I’ll have to stock up while I can and keep an eye on the used curriculum boards.
I’m glad I bought the DVDs…I need to check to see which ones I don’t have. We live in the country and have satellite internet so streaming is nearly impossible and sporadic. We’ve made the decision to live where we do so as the world becomes more digital and internet driven, we’ll just be left behind. But I wouldn’t change a thing.
I’ve looked at these on and off but haven’t bought any yet. Yet with the switch they are making to video streaming, it’s now time to decide. We have satellite internet also so streaming is not going to work.
So can someone give me a review of these DVD’s? Specifically if you do one, do you learn enough skill with the medium that you can transfer it to projects of your own?
Thanks,
Rebecca
