Field Trips Atlanta Georgia

Wow now this is God’s work in all its glory. Thanks Doug – the Grand Canyon may be out of our reach for some time, but the Atlanta region less so – what an amazing place, I am putting this on my list of wonderful places to see. This is spectacular – the Amicalola State Park looks excellent as well.

csmamma, that’s not too far from me! I’m just south of Helen and about 45 min. N. of Braselton and L’ville.

There’s not much more to add to what others have suggested, at least in Atl. and on the Eastside (there’s other places in Northwest GA. that are Native American related) though I warn about the zoo this time of year; the animals hide from you in their shady places due to the heat and it’s just too hot and humid for humans, too. So I think if you’re here in spring, prior to June and in autumn, that’d be a better time.

There’s also a planetarium at Fernbank, but also in Dahlonega. Fernbank is having a special program on mythological animals right now…looks very neat! The aquarium will be well worth the trip and plan for whole day, including the Varsity while you’re down there. Callaway Gardens is wonderful, but then again the heat will be even worse down there.

There’s the Margeret Mitchell House, too (Gone With the Wind author).

The mtns. Doug showed you would be refreshing for something outside. You could drive up there and cool off by Tubing around the Hooch! That’ the Chattahoochee River ya’ll can float down around Helen.

Gwinnett Co. (which is where L’ville is) has theatres and educational opportunites, too. Gainesville has an excellent theatre and Ballet company, though they don’t have anything going on currently as the seasons are over and a HIstory center:http://www.negahc.org/

If you move here, we have a CM book group that meets in Buford, with Sonya blessing us with her grace and wisdom as often as she can. Maybe you can visit at our Messianic Synagogue, too!

As you can see, there’s a lot of things and places to choose from; both in Atlanta and in the outlying suburbs.
