Not sure where to start with this author.  I am looking for books for me and for the children, but not sure what age is appropriate.  Looking at doing The White Horse for my 12 year-old daughter.

    Thank you!

My 8 and 10 year old girls just read The Little White Horse and they were riveted. I’d love to hear from others on further suggestions from Goudge.

I have only read the Bird in the Tree. I enjoyed it and would like to read more of her books myself but didn’t think it was for kids. The main plot line is about a woman considering leaving her husband.

The Little White Horse is a great one for that age. There is also a movie of it you could watch after. It’s called The Secret of Moon Acre I believe.

I read her trilogy, (The Bird in the Tree, Pilgrim’s Inn, The Heart of the Family). I agree w/ Nebby, not for a 12 year old. I did enjoy the books myself, though.

I recently picked up a copy of The Dean’s Watch, but have yet to read it.

I haven’t read any of the books Goudge wrote for children but the titles are according to Jan Bloom:

The Fairies’ Baby and Other Stories

I Saw Three Ships (Christmas title)

    Linnets and Valerians

    The Little White Horse

    The Lost Angel

    Make-Believe

Sister of the Angels: A a Christmas Story

    Smoky-House

    The Valley of Song

    The Well of the Star

I’ve enjoyed her adult novels (didn’t finish Green Dolohin Street, loved The White Witch and Thr Scent of Water) but they are not intended for children. Some more mature themes.

    Kim,

The only children’s novel we’ve read is The Little White Horse. My children were ages 9 and under when I read it aloud and they enjoyed it.

I love her novels for adults. My favorites (so far) have been Green Dolphin Street and A City of Bells.
