Hi everyone! My thoughts are turning toward Easter because it is next month and I was wondering what your family’s favorite Easter reources are? Do you do any special activities/preparation in the weeks leading up to Easter?
Here are some resources I have used all or part of in the past (ours focus on Christ, we don’t do the whole Easter bunny thing):
We read Christ’s life in the four gospels. Some years we choose one gospel to focus on, other years we read all 4 before Easter.
We also love to watch these Bible Videos (free online!) based on the KJV, with scripture references for each at the end of the video: https://www.lds.org/bible-videos?lang=eng
There are 40 videos there. Our favorite one for Easter specifically is this one: https://www.lds.org/bible-videos/videos/he-is-risen?lang=eng
They take several of the other videos and combine pieces into this one just over 7 minutes for a specific Easter theme of He is Risen.

We did Walk With Me to Calvary last year as a family and loved it. It can be had from Queen Homeschool.

We also do Resurrection Rolls. My younger son looks forward to them every year.
My two older kids (11 and 7) are making their own Lent lapbook this year with various resources we’ve found (so far they have a Lent countdown map, a list of the things they are doing for Lent, a self “report card” for them to keep track of how they are doing, a list of the Corporal Works of Mercy, and a small child-size Stations of the Cross). We’ve been adding to it a little bit each day.
Each year I post a Children’s Station of the Cross and we go through them throughout the course of Lent.
Another thing we do, which we just started last year, is Resurrection Eggs. I made them from things we have around the house and I stored them to do again this year. The kids loved to try and guess each day what was in the next egg.
Finally, we have a Sacrificial Bean Jar that we keep on the table. When I catch the kids doing something good they get to add a bean to the jar. On Easter, all of the beans turn into jellybeans.

Another thing I’m thinking of doing this year is an Empty Tomb Garden to keep as the centerpiece on our table. Beautiful!

I just ordered Amon’s Adventure by Arnold Ytreeied, because we enjoyed the Christmas story, Jotham’s Journey, so much.

There was another thing I thought of – making a ‘picture timeline’ of events from the last week of Christ’s life. It would be similar to this picture timeline we have in our dining room, but would focus in on just that last week, and we would put up a new picture each day. For example, a few that came to mind are
Palm Sunday – Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem
Thursday – the Last Supper and Garden of Gethsemane
Friday – crucifixion
Sunday – resurrection
Has anyone done something similar?

Sounds very similar to a Stations of the Cross. Here are some printable ones. The traditional Stations of the Cross starts with Jesus being condemned to death.

Jawgee, yes, it is sort of the same idea, but I was thinking of using beautiful artwork for each day’s events, maybe mostly by one artist if there is one who has been that prolific on the life of Christ…

Did you ever put together a timeline of beautiful artwork for the events of Christ during Passion week? Since Lent begins tomorrow, my mind has turned to such things. Thanks!
