Since Christmas is approaching I would love to hear family favorite board games. I am especially looking for off the wall games rather than just your standard board games. Our boys ages 4/6 love Quirkle (4yo plays with mom or dad).
I was going to suggest Qwirkle, my family loves it. We generally get at least 1 new game each Christmas. This year I planned on getting Carcasonne since we will start our Middle Ages study in Jan. I just found out they have a Kids of Carcasonne game now too. I’m not sure which one would be best. Shhh. Don’t tell my scholars.
Rivers, Roads, and Rails by Ravensburger. You should be able to find it on Amazon. I played this as a kid, and we bought one for our son – same age group as yours.
We like Left, Right, Center. It’s a dice game, around $5. Because there is no reading (just knowing your left and right) the whole family can play. It gets pretty crazy because you’re not “out” until the very last chip is moved.
We don’t have Quirkle, but we have Quirkle Cubes which is a lot of fun.
Hisssss is also good for younger type ages, but still interesting for parents.
I’m glad you started this thread because I need ideas for games too!!!!
My five- and six-year olds like Royal Rescue. It’s more of a logic puzzle than a board game, but the kids can take turns figuring it out. It uses different shaped wooden blocks and you have to arrange them so that the knight figure can get to the princess figure (or vice-versa!). Here’s the link on Amazon (though it says not available right now):
My boys are 3,4, & 6 and most of their games are more geared towards them, but we are starting to enjoy more family games. One of our family favorites is Sequence. There is a Sequence for Kids, but we also play the adult version with a child paired with a parent. We also team up and play Battleship. Scrabble Junior is fun for the kids and has 2 levels on play with it. We love Qwirkle too! Thanks for posting this. I’m making a note of some of these. :0)
