Hi everyone, we’re getting ready to start Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne for Homeschool Book Club and there are so many different translations.  Do you have a favorite?

And if you have movie version opinions or want to share some thoughts on a few other books please come check out the other books we’ve picked for the next 5 months of Homeschool Book Club – they all have movie versions too….

There are a lot of recent movie versions.  Like, maybe 5 or 6 just in my lifetime.  We loved this book so we tried them.  All.  My advice? Do not under any circumstances watch any one shot after 1970.    Please.  Especially make sure you do not, ever, watch the Brendan Fraser version.  If I had to make a list of the Worst Movies I’ve Ever Seen, that one would be right up there, along with Tooth Fairy 2 and that horrid recent Mysterious Island version (we also loved that book.  Do NOT see the movie.  Not even for money.  I’m serious.)  I wish I knew what it was about Verne that makes filmmakers make execrable movies.  The very fun novels seem to induce some sort of filmmaker malaise that requires the making of a truly awful movie.  Just.  Don’t.  Do. It.  🙂
