  • Instead of family read aloud, have any of you made this book as an independent reading for a child?

I did this with Famous Men of Greece.  My older two girls read this together while my youngest and I read another selection.  FMoG was too much for her… it upset her too much. Hopefully that helps you with this….

You could also download it from Librivox and have them listen to it. That’s what I do w/my two.

Thanks ladies! Blue J, your youngest’s reason for not wanting to read it is my same concern for my younger girl too. She is very bright and listens to every word of family read alouds and I think some of the material is too much for her imagination.

Rachel, I had no idea it was on librivox. Great idea. Thanks!

Ok, I just noticed that there are two editions! Duh. Is the newer one that much better? I have the original copy, but I’ll buy the Greenleaf Press one if it’s more readable for children.

    Advice?

I have one from Greenleaf and one from Memoria Press for Famous Men of Greece.  The stories are the same, just slightly different wording.  I am visual and loved the picture aspect in the MP version. I also have the MP version of FMoR.  I don’t think that you need to buy the Greenleaf one unless you really want to…if they are like the Greek ones, from what I can see it’s really not that different.

Thanks Sheraz, that is good to know!!
