The cold season is coming upon us here in Michigan. Its the perfect time to get out our family- favorite board games and dust them off. I would love to hear your family favorites. We like to purchase a new one every year or so. Anyone care to share?

Hope you’re all enjoying a great year so far!

    Blessings, Heather

One of our favorite family games is Bohnanza.  It’s a German card game, and so much fun.  The kids caught on quickly and are always asking to play!  We bought our version off of Amazon.

We also love Dutch Blitz.  It’s a real quick card game, so it might be a little harder for younger kids, but once they get the hang of it they’ll be fine.

Last year for Christmas we bought a Star Wars version of electronic battleship.  It’s been great, because it is something that the kids can play when they want to play a game by themself (the electronic versions have a one player option).

Would love to hear what others like to play because our family is really big into games.

We love Bananagrams! It’s like Scrabble, Speed Scrabble! Each person builds his own crossword all at the same time. It comes in a cute little banana pouch and is very portable.

    We also like Catch Phrase.

We really enjoy cribbage…older kids should be able to learn, too. Also, another favorite is Quiddler…it’s a scrabble-like card game. Sequence (board game + cards), Balderdash…sigh…so many games, so little time! Smile

Thanks for your suggestions, ladies! Most of these are new to me, I’ll have to look into them. Our timeless favs so far are Apples to Apples, Yhatze and Monopoly.

For card games, we love to play Skipbo and Uno. Do you have any favorite card games?

I love to hear your ideas! Thanks for sharing!

Dominos is another great game, and it requires logical thinking in order to organize your dominoes in the right order.  We play the Mexican Train version.

We play Mexican Train dominos too. Anybody ever played Rummikub? We like that one, but it’s limited to 4 players.

One of our favorite card games is Phase 10.

Love Rummikub!  One of my relatives (related to my maternal grandmother) actually invented that game!

You have listed most of the games that we enjoy as well.  Set is a great all age card game.  My kids played a game at the cottage with their cousins called Qwelf.  They had tons of fun with it.  I’m thinking of it for a Christmas gift this year.

    Hi Heather,

Our family has been playing the card game called Phase 10 for over 11 years now and many people have never heard of it.  My kids usually start playing it around age 7.  We bought a board game version of the card game last year called Phase 10 Twist and we all love playing that too.  Have fun!

    Blessings,

We also like Road To Bethlehem which you can have up to 12 people I think and it gets everyone talking and doing silly things its from Family Man (which my dh likes him).

Some games for 2 people:  Othello and Pente

Card games that we’ve been enjoying:  Gin Rummy and Hearts (although ideally for 4 people).  My 8 yo daughter is turning into a game-a-holic!  On weekends she often requests that we play games in the afternoons.

We also like Jam Packed Jam from Cranium.  You try to pack as many items into the vehicle before the timer goes off and everything pops out of the back of the vehicle.  There are cards that tell you what you you need to try to pack.  It’s challenging for adults, but is easy enough for young children.  My daugther began playing it with us last year at age 4 and loves it.  She sometimes just plays with it without us, practicing how to put the pieces in.  It’s great for thinking and problem solving skills.
