Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for family Bible studies for younger elementary age and pre-K children (my kids are 8, 6, and 4). We are doing Genesis-Deuteronomy as our main history curriculum and we do verse memorization and hymn study as part of daily schoolwork, but I was looking for something to use in the evenings with my husband and everyone together. I purchased Our 24 Family Ways by Clay Clarkson and we have tried it the past couple weeks with little success. My kids don’t seem to be interested, the questions are a little beyond their understanding, and I just feel like it’s floundering. Maybe they just need more time to get used to the format, or we need to implement it a different way, or just try something else for now.
If anyone has used Our 24 Family Ways and has suggestions for using it with younger kids, I’d love to hear them! I also would like to hear other suggestions for Bible studies for this age group. I was looking at Master Books More than Words or Where Faith Grows, if anyone has used these I’d be interested in hearing in your experience!

These are devotionals rather than Bible studies, but I think the Louie Giglio books are great for those ages – Indescribable is one and The Wonder of Creation is the other. They are about God and science and they’re interesting and fun.
I tried More Than Words when my daughter was 9 or 10 (the 2nd level) and it was just…too much. Too preachy or pedantic-feeling, maybe? I thought she would like it, but it ended up feeling like busywork and we dropped it fairly quickly.

You can just read the Bible stories. My kids are 8-14 and we are using Vos’ Bible Story book along with Journey through the Bible.
Another favorite for our family for younger kids is Big Truths for Little Kids. It’s based on A Child’s First Catechism and uses stories to explain the truths.
The Attributes of God for Kids is also good for that age. And A is for Adam from Answers in Genesis.

We are loving “Answers Bible Curriculum for homeschoolers” by Answers in Genesis. My husband reads/teaches for just a few minutes after supper. He simplifies it at parts, but it is excellent! You can see samples on their website.
That being said, my kids range from 4-11, and in the past we’ve also gone through The Jesus Storybook Bible, and other short devotional books, such as “Indescribable” as mentioned above. 🙂

God-centered Family has you read straight from the Bible and has questions for discussion, plus suggestions for each age from toddler to teen. Really little ones are to listen for a key word in each chapter. https://godcenteredfamily.org/

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! I have heard of/used some of these resources, but others are new to me and I’ve been checking them out! I set aside Our 24 Family Ways for now and we are going through The Ology for a second time (which I really do like!) until I settle on something new.

You are probably aware, but The Ology has sister book. WonderFull: Ancient Psalms Ever New is by the same author in a similar format. I don’t have it myself, but I’ve had it highly recommended by very trusted sources.

I actually hadn’t heard of Wonderfull: Ancient Psalms Ever New but it is on my radar now! Thank you! I also remembered that author has the Bible studies Long Story Short and Old Story New, which look interesting too. My kids really like The Ology so I’d like to purchase the one on Psalms!
