My dd5 is really into the idea of fairies, and I thought it would be fun to get her some fairy-themed items for Christmas. Are there any good fairy books that she would like? I don’t like Tinkerbell too much due to her attitude. 🙂 So I was hoping there are other options.

My DD6 loved the “Fairy Realm” series by Emily Rodda. They are about a little girl who learns her grandmother was a Fairy Princess before she left ‘The Realm’ to marry a mortal. She has lots of adventures among the fairies, talking animals, elves and dwarves.
I liked them far better than the Tinkerbell books. I actually found myself reading ahead after I had read a couple of chapters to my daughter.

Oh, oh, does she have any Flower Fairies books? I love those! Gave some to my niece last year. There are a bunch.

An older, ADORABLE book is Twig by Elizabeth Orton Jones. It’s been reprinted. It’s a chapter book but defintely a don’t miss for little girls.

What about The Racketty Packetty House by Frances Hodgsen Burnett or Little Blue by Gaye Chapman (my friend Elise reviews it HERE.)

The Flower Fairies also has a beautiful CD. My girls listen to it all the time. And there are also lovely coloring books with pictures that correspond to each fairy (which also relate to the particular letter of the alphabet). Wonderful books!

We LOVED Twig – such a sweet book. There are a few popup books made with the art from the Flower Fairies books – we have How to Find Flower Fairies. If you think your daughter is old enough to handle a complex popup book, this one is so lovely – a real keepsake.
You can find a lot of Flower Fairy stuff (coloring books and stickers etc) at the Dover site.
Also building fairy houses outdoors is a favorite pastime for my little girl (google fairy houses and you will find a lot of pictures/info). You can also google “fairy gardens” for some beautiful miniature gardens. I am dying to start one in an old washtub!
Fairies are fun!!!
BTW my favorite fairy literature (for a bit older girls AND BOYS is the Artemis Fowl series – fairies with modern technology! Love it!)
