I am wondering if the enrichment Volumes will have some artist, composer, poet, etc match ups to a particular History/Geography/Bible guide. For instance I was thinking of getting 3 artist and 3 composer packs that fall into the Middle Ages etc. Guide. ( I was thinking Bach, Bethoven, Chopin/ Giotto, Davinci, Durer) I see Vol 1 has all 3 Musicians. But the artists listed are Constable, Rembrant, Velasquez. Forgive my ignorance, but do they fall in the Middle Ages, Ren & Ref period? If not, is it easy enough to sub in the chosen artists portfolios? Is that a good idea anyways to tie them all in like that?
Or, also, can Cherrydale French be subbed in for the Spanish without too much fuss?
You can select artists either way: matching the history time period you are studying or random selection. We like to recommend doing 3 artists during the year from different time periods and with three different styles, because some time periods will find artists scarce (Ancient Egypt, for example) and other time periods will have a profusion of artists that would require many years to get through (Renaissance, for example). Selecting three “at random” keeps variety, BUT be sure to enter each artist in your Book of Centuries. That’s the key. The children will put together their own mental art history timeline if you are faithful to enter the artists in the BOC, and they will form their own connections between artists and history and contemporaries.
That said, you should be able to freely substitute a different artist for one in the Enrichment Studies, if desired. 🙂
The Enrichment Studies recommend that you do your preferred language from Cherrydale Press. The lesson plans simply tell you to work on a series from your book at the appointed times. It lists Spanish as the example title, but French would work just fine as well.
Thank you Sonya. We will do the suggested artists in the Enrichment guide then. We do use a Book of Centuries, not sure why I did not think of that tidbit. Happy to know subbing in French will work fine.
Thank you for this work done in bringing all this together and laid out for us. I needed this kind of direction this year. I SOOOO look forward to the older years of ULW and Keep It Simple upper grades. What a blessing. My daughter will be watching for it, ha! All though she is excited about the use of the enrichment guide for us all this year. We love family learning. May The Lord bless you in your further works.
