    Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew if the Exploring Creation through Astronomy course required other books to go along with it?  If it does, do you know where I can find a booklist for it?

If you are talking about the 1st-6th grade option.  No there are no other books needed.  You can buy (or use to be able to buy) a kit that had the experiement supplies in it at Christian Books but I don’t know if they do that anymore.  But no there are no other books.  We have really enjoyed her books and hope  you do also.  Misty

I would also like to ask….does anyone know of any good living books on the topic of astronomy?  I know my kids (mostly ds gd. 1-2) would love to have extra stories read on this subject.  There doesn’t seem to be a lot out there from what I have found.  My son will be in grades 1 and 2 next year and my dd will be in grade 3.  Thanks for any help!

For astronomy, specifically how to find constellations, for kids around grades 1-3 I highly recommend “Finding the Constellations” by H.A. Rey (sp? – the same author as the Curious George books.)   My 6yo son loved it this year.  The way he connects the stars is a bit different, but actually LOOKS like what the constellation is.  (ie, the Great Bear really looks like a bear, instead of a boxish thing with a long tail.)   The one thing I didn’t like with this book is that he used English names for the constellations instead of their proper latin/greek/whatever names.

For older kids (and also for adults) for the same type of resource, I would get the same author’s book “The Stars”.  Same type of book, same constellation type drawings, just written for an older audience.

Oh – and for the original question about apologia’s astronomy – there is an optional notebooking book you can buy…. and I think there are free journallying pages available (there are for most of the courses…)
