Editing a resource?

It seems that once a resource is scheduled you can’t really edit it and the changes take place without deleting the resource from the schedule and re-scheduling it.  Am I missing something or is this the way it works right now?  I’m just wondering about fixing little things (like a mis-spelling or incorrect page numbers entered) after the fact.  Thanks!

Yes, you can go back and edit a resource. Once the resource itself has been edited, you just need to tell the Organizer that you want to use the edited version instead of the currently-scheduled version that’s already showing on your Daily Plan or Scheduler.

To do that, go to your Daily Plan and click on Edit Schedule beside the resource’s title. That should pop the resource back into the Scheduler step. You should see your corrected/edited version show up there. Make any changes you want to chapters (for example, if you added some chapters to the resource and want to use those extra chapters now) and whatever else, then click Save. That should apply the newly-edited version of the resource to your Daily Plan. Clear as mud?

yup, I do it all the time (that is how I do field trips…. I have various blank ones scheduled for a Saturday….  when we do a field trip, I edit the resource to say what it is…. then go into the scheduler and save it in the scheduler… then I mark it off in the Daily Plan.   I have also done it to update chapter info.)

Sonya – just a quick question….  anything already done stays as the older version on reports etc – right?

Reason I’m asking, is I’m basically planning on re-using my Field Trip and similar resources for the new school year – so I want to mark the Field Trip resource as done…. edit the resource to clear out the descriptions I put in – and then use the resource again next year.  I believe I can do that without messing up my reports for this school year, but want to be sure.

I’m also debating on ending stuff like my Violin Practice resource etc – and then rescheduling them for next year…  I have one setup as “Violin Practice Suzuki Book 1” – but this could easily take 3 or more years to actually Finish book 1….  and as normally we practice everyday (except recently, sigh) that would be a LOT of dates if I expand the resource on the daily planner….

Right, suzukimom. Anything in the records stays in the records.

You can edit and re-use a resource as many times as you like. If that resource is “live” for another student, it will stay true to the older version as long as you don’t tell the Organizer to use the newer version (as outlined in the post above) for that student.

If you edit the resource and schedule it for another student, that student will have the newer version. But in both situations, anything entered into the records stays the way it was entered.

Those music practice resources can get long. I switched to a monthly format to save screen space. We gave Violin Practice 12 divisions with the month names, and now we check off Worked On whenever she practices during that month and Finished at the last practice during that month. That system seems to keep the screen more tidy. Smile
