Any recommendations or brief history synopsis?

Too spooky and morbid for me…I read “The Tell Tale Heart” from my dad’s literature set when I was in 4th grade and had nightmares for a year. Are you sure you want to go there?

While I agree that Poe is dark, I have not read the above mentioned story. I just read a brief discription, and it seems much darker than the stuff I have read by him. “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “Raven”. There is this book called “Poetry for Young People: Edgar Allan Poe”. This might be what you are looking for. It has his less dark selections and the intro includes a 3 1/2 page bio.

Oddly, I liked the Tell-Tale Heart as a kid, but I cannot remmeber much at this point. Surprised I do have the poetry for young people book mentioned and I find this series is good at weeding out poems.

I read The Tell-Tale Heart in high school… *shudders*! I do think we will eventually read *something* of his, but not the aforementioned take! 😉

    NOT on our to-read list.

I retread the synopsis of Tell Tale Heart bc of the thoughts shared here. I remembered it being dark, but no detail. Um, no, we will not be reading this. In high school, we read it and I read many such things back then. Thankfully The Lord has washed that imagery from my brain. We may visit some of his other works after previewing, but this one is a no.
