Use the “search music” tool on the left hand side to find your song. For each song, you can view and print the sheet music. There is also a “.mid” link that plays the song in piano over and over again. Once you press play, you can just listen with your family without having to go back to the beginning for each stanza.
***There is also a link to the bible verse the song is based upon. It is also written out just under the title on the sheet music.
I will have to dig a little deeper to find history on the hymns I selected. I haven’t gotten that far, yet. If anyone can recommend an online resource for that, I would appreciate it.
So for each song I selected this year, I printed out the sheet music and placed it in a page protector, then I copy and pasted just the lyrics onto a word document and put that into the page protector with the sheet music. I also wrote the page number it can be found in our own copy of our church’s hymnal. (Yes, the pastor knows I have it. LOL!)
I will most likely get our church’s pianist to make me a recording of each song so we can sing them in the car as well. I hope this helps someone looking for a resource. Easy!
hymnary.org is a site that Doug recommended – and I use it a lot. IT gives the historical background on the composer/author and sometimes the story behind the hymn. You can print out the actual music, too.
It’s not an online source, but there are Hymn books that give a bit of info about the author and hymn. Then Sings My Soul. I have 2 of the volumes. They are a great way to start. (I just wish I could find an audio of them. Oh, well.)
I am excited about these links! I can’t wait to check them out.
Thank you, Karen. 🙂 Welcome TailorMade. 🙂 And Kerby, I have that book on my wish list. They are super cheap so I am not sure why I haven’t gotten them yet. 🙂
This is the sight we use for hymn study and each hymn has the story to go along with it. We have two volumes of “Then Sings My Soul” also and it is very helpful.
