I am looking for a basic intro to grammar for my 3rd grader to do independently. Does anyone use this and hate it? Is it terribly involved? It looks very basic online, but I know that can be deceving at times…
I have used Easy Grammar 6 this year and it is great!!! It is very basic but that is why we love it. Short and simple lessons. We do 2-4 pages a day depending on the lesson presented. It does NOT teach writing though..just grammar.
You can just purchase the Teacher book and photocopy the workbooks pages, which is what I do. The teacher’s book is all inclusive so that saves you money!!
We will be using EG Plus next year because my son loves the short lessons and he can truly just focus on the lesson being taught without any additional information thrown in.
I was looking into this for 3rd also and wondering how does it compare with the English for the Thoughtful Child 1 we used this year? Not too excited about using the next volume, something about it does not really work well with my daughter (she absolutely hATes it) so I am looking for an alternative…..any thoughts?? Thank you!
We have both EFTTC and EG. They are completely different. EFTTC has some picture study, writing assignments, etc., EG is just grammar. I have EG for my oldest who also uses JAG (just wanted something a bit different) but my 9yo can definitely use some of it now, but he’s still finishing up EFTTC. He (9yo) has played Bingo and unscrambled the words on the “unscramble the words” worksheet (not all, but some) and has enjoyed it. My 9yo is not quite ready to only do EG, so we’ll probably use EFTTC Vol. 2, then use EG later. Don’t know if he can handle JAG, EG may be a better fit for him. Okay, nevermind, he looked at EG and said,”No.” He is more into stories and fairy tales, maybe Grammarland would be something he would like.
Hope this made sense.
