Has anyone used Easy Grammar or Daily Grams?  What are your thoughts on these books?  I’ve seached the archives and haven’t found a lot on them.  I’m considering it for a 6th grader.

I have used Daily Grams for years…my girls (now 18, 16, 13) learned a lot just by doing these daily.  Daily Grams provided the basis of our English before we started more formal grammar instruction.  I was amazed at what they had gleaned from the Daily Grams alone!  I have used the Easy Grammar Plus with my ‘grammar resistent’ child when she was in 7th grade, and the repetition was good for her. Undecided However, she still remains ‘grammar resistent’ Surprised She prefers Daily Grams over everything else.

Thanks.  So, I could use Daily Grams instead of Easy Grammar with my 6th grader, right?  She’s already had some formal grammar and I don’t want to really do a full program next year.  Does Daily Grams teach the concept or assume that you already have knowledge of it?  I looked at the samples but I can’t tell.

Following this. I bought Easy Grammar but didn’t know if we needed Daily Grams or not? Don’t really understand what they are: more practice?

I’ve used Easy Grammar.  I have a very old copy that I’ve been using for about 20 years, so I’m sure mine is a bit different than the current version.  When I purchased mine, it was one volume.  Now I think that EG is sold in a workbook format for each grade level.  That’s probably why it isn’t recommended much by CM fans who would advocate holding off on grammar and covering it all in one chunk instead of spreading it out over the elementary years.

I’m going to begin Daily Grams this fall with one of my children who just needs lots of review.  That is how I see Daily Grams — a review of what’s already been learned.  Since it will be new to us, I can’t answer whether you’d still need EG, but as far as I can tell, DG’s doesn’t do any teaching and wouldn’t be a stand-alone grammar program.

I agree with jeaninpa, i believe that DG is for review and EG is for the teaching.

I do believe that is how the Daily Grams are viewed – as a review.  That being said, my girls used this alone for many years.  Daily Grams are self-explanatory with some ‘teaching’ elements.  If they had a question, we used an English handbook to answer/supplement.  So, JennyMN, I think this would work well for your daughter – especially, if you don’t want a full program.
