I have completed the 3 year olds books with my 2 & 4 year old and was wondering if there was somewhere that I could find more excellent books like them, but at the same level. I moved on to the 4 year olds list and I couldn’t keep their interest. The stories were too long, with too many words on one page to hold their attention. Is there a longer 3 year olds list anywhere? The books were just so great, and we have MANY happy memories reading them!
Try the Jesse Bear series by Nancy White Carlstrom. I had forgotten about them until recently and they seemed a bit youngish for my 5yo, although he seemed to like them. They’re on the B4FIAR list, so the age group is right.
The My First Little House books may be an option, too.
There’s also a list on Ambelside Online. Honey for a Child’s Heart and Books Children Love have lists for younger children. I’ve really enjoyed Cheryl Bastian’s book. She has great literature info for all ages/grades. The name of the book is You Have to Read This One: Raising a Contagious Reader. She also has great links on her site with additional info. Here’s the link to Cheryl’s site.
You can also check your local library and see if they carry the above books. If not, you can also try interlibrary loan.
