So I, like others on here, love lists of books.  I thought I would share. I have not read most of these as I am just gathering titles and information. I know we won’t read all of these and some we may not after I look at them, but I wanted a big list of books to choose from as we started 1st grade history. I am trying to find many cultural books to include more than Egypt and Greece, so if you can add or have comments please share.  There may be twaddle involved until I edit, but that is what lists start as.  What living books did you read for ancient history?

My younger ones read (and enjoyed):

    • Life in the Great Ice Age
    • True Story of Noah’s Ark
    • Pyramid
    • Pharaoh’s Boat
    • Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors
    • Boy of the Pyramids
    • Tut’s mummy
    • Seeker of Knowledge
    • Greenleaf Guide to the Old Testament
    • Trojan Horse
    • Aesop’s Fables
    • Our Little Athenian Cousin
    • Peoples of the Ancient World (Life in Ancient Egypt and Life in Ancient Mesopotamia)
    • City

We spent more than a year on ancients, so I wouldn’t plan as many books if you are only spending a year in this time period.  Some of my DC enjoyed chapter books at that age more than others.   I’m not sure what the age for the Greenleaf Guide is (2nd and up maybe?), but I enjoyed  the OT one.  It gave me lots of great questions to help with narration.  We haven’t gone through the entire guide, but I’m thinking of going through it this coming year.

I know the list will shorten once I start looking for books. There are multiple covering the same topic and I hope this will let me find at least one of them at a used book store or discounted.  Thanks for the list. I will look over these titles too.
