I am curious as I look through ELTL about her discussion of some “grammar” concepts as they do copy work.  An example would be explaining that a capitol letter goes at the beginning.  When you start copy work do you do this or do you just put the sentence before the student and have them write it out with no explanation.  I am thinking mostly grade 1/2 here as we do not plan to start formal grammar until 4th.  thanks

I am doing Level 1 with my first and second graders.  We do a quick 5-minute lesson introducing those simple concepts, and then I have them do the copy work.  I don’t worry too much about how much of it they grasp.  This is just a gentle introduction with fun literature, poems, and picture study mixed in.

Some of it depends on the child. Charlotte gave the child some time to notice those things for himself before pointing them out. Some children might notice them sooner than others. Some might ask about them; some might be oblivious to them. I like to start the teacher-guided discovery process in grade 3.
