I will be doing Module 1 next year.  But I would also like to read some picture books for Early American History for fun alongside – I can barely keep up with the book flow now, and by that I mean keeping enough great living books on hand and the boys are only 6 and 4 now.

I am looking at Beautiful Feets selections, and our library has all but 5 from their selection!  This would be 6 books to read per 12-week term, so I think that will be fine.

My Question:  Are there some, like the D’ Aulaire books, that are so good you would invest in buying them? If there is extra money after the main things, I might want to add certain ones to our home library, but which ones???

    Thank you ladies!

    Hi heatherma,

I just wanted you to know that I did just that – added D’Aulaires’ books for American History during first grade.  My boys were then the same ages as yours are now.  We like them so much that I picked them up in hardcover whenever I was able to find them.

    Best,

We will start HS this summer with year 1 and I want to follow the Modules in chronological order for World History. But I also will start American History in addition and bought so far D”Aulaires Benjamin Franklin and George Washington. Though I do not have first hand experience working with the books yet I read a lot of great reviews and personally from reading them myself I think they are great for yearly years!:)

OH MY that is a hard one! I love them all! Pocohontas, Ben Franklin, and George Washington are some of my favorites!

Also the book on Jamestown that is listed on the BF website as well as Pilgrims of Plymouth. And Three Young Pilgrims by Cheryl Harness, all are great to have on hand! The last one has great illustrations a map and a diagram of the ship! Oh yes and Squanto Friend of the Pilgrims! We stayed on the Pilgrims a while!

Another good book from Dover is Life in Colonial America. It is a coloring book.

Check out http://www.currclick.com They have a variety of American History copywork etc.. for good prices!

Have fun! I love studying this time period!
