I recently bought an iPad and already have over 300 eBooks. I need to make categories that will make finding them easier. Has anyone worked on a list? iTunes assigns them, but it seems random and not at all helpful.
I’m thinking along the lines of:
Bible & Missions
Math & Technology
History (should this be broken down further)
Historical Fiction
Poetry
Theatre
Music & Art
Language Arts
Teacher Materials
Science & Nature
Biographies (not sure about this or if it should just be incorporated elsewhere within other categories)
I think this looks good. If you share your ipad with other family members, I would suggest maybe setting up individual categories. I also like the current year idea. Being able to assign books to more than one category is helpful.
I recently bought a kindle and it’s amazing how quickly I’ve accumulated books. Sorting through them was one step I didn’t think about and it took quite a bit of time. I found that setting up categories as I filtered through the books worked best, so your categories should work pretty well. You’ll know when you start sorting through them if you need to add any more. I know I’ll be tweaking the categories as I acquire new books, but it’s working right now.
My categories:
Mama
Daddy
Child 1
Child 2
Bible Stories
Charlotte Mason
Christmas
Geography
Grammar
Heroes
Literature
Nature
Poetry
Plutarch
Science
Shakespeare
Tales
History
