I have two sons that are 2 years apart, and I would like to do as much as possible together for ease. I know that many subjects are done as a family and then for reading/language and math it would be individual. With regard to the SCM guides I just can’t get it thru my head for some reason. Help me clarify this so I can stop thinking about it for awhile:)
Older ds will start Module 1 at 6 yrs and then in 7th grade will start the modules over again at a higher level. younger ds will be only 4 when we start this and so a lot will probably go over his head as he listens in. Do I then back up and re-read the books for 1st grade to him when 2nd ds is 6, while continuing to read the age appropriate ones to older son for same time period?
Since I have only 2 kids I could take the time to read some things together and then have individual read-aloud time spaced out thru our morning, but it seems like a lot and maybe I am missing the point of doing it together. Aagh! Someone, please weigh in on this. Hope it makes sense!
1st Year – Do Module 1 with oldest ds (6). Youngest (4) doesn’t have to do it, but if he hears it is fine
2nd Year – Do Module 2 with oldest ds (7). Youngest (5) doesn’t have to do it, but if he hears it is fine
3rd Year – Do Module 3 with both (ages 8 and 6). – yes the youngest starts in the middle of history…..
4th Year – Do Module 4 with both (ages 9 and 7)
5th Year – Do Module 5 with both (ages 10 and 8)
6th Year – Do Module 6 with both (ages 11 and 9)
7th Year – Do Module 1 with both (ages 12 and 10) – this is the youngest’s first time on this module…
ETC.
I believe each module has some books read by everyone together – and then extra books read by various age groups, to make it appropriate for that child’s leve.
