Some time ago on the forum, suzukimom mentioned using Crayola’s Dry Erase Activity Center that you can slide pages into and have the kids write on it with dry erase markers. I’m wondering how well this works for kids. Looking at a picture of it, I don’t think I would use it for copywork, but I’m also thinking it might be uncomfortable even for things like map drills because of how your wrist would have to rest on the raised edge that goes around it.
Dry erase markers work ok on the activity center. It varies a bit on the brand… Dry erase board crayons do NOT work on it. And that is all we tried.
For our practice sheets, I have switched to a basic sheet protector, and I’m using Staedtler non-permanant markers. [medium tip] (not dry-erase.) Then I don’t need to worry about hands smearing etc.. When all done, I can clean it with a damp paper-towel etc. I am also using it for a reading program where I mark off what has been read correctly. I can leave it on for days (needed) – until done a section – and then easily remove it to use the pages for the next child.
btw – my dh said that when he was in the military, they used the Staedtler PERMANENT markers on their maps (covered with map-tak). The marks were on the map, wouldn’t come off, even if it got wet. When done, they would clean it off with nail-polish remover, and the maps were ready to be used again. But that seemed over-kill for my needs… lol.
