csmamma ParticipantI’m compiling a list of books for my 11th grader this year. Are there any you think are a must for your dc to read before they graduate? Any genre suggestions are welcome! Thanks
! csmamma ParticipantAlso for those with graduates or highschoolers…..out of the many books your dc may have read thus far, which ones were the most impacting or life changing? Thx
LindseyD ParticipantYou may have already read these, but they are well loved and remembered from my hs days and a few that I wish I had read back then:
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
1984 by George Orwell
And the Bride Wore White by Dannah Gresh
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Crucible by Arthur Miller
The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare (still my favorite of his works!)
The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare (another of my favorites)
Kisses From Katie by Katie Davis
Classic Christianity by Bob George
Radical by David Platt
The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey
I’m sure you’ll get LOTS of great recommendations!

art ParticipantThe Making of America: The Substance and Meaning of the Constitution by Cleon Skousen
We did this in the Senior year. It is vital to understand the Constitution–especially in our world today.
momto2blessings ParticipantMine aren’t in h.s. yet, but “How Should We Then Live” by Francis Schaeffer is not-to-miss for us:) http://books.google.com/books/about/How_Should_We_Then_Live.html?id=9bR8xRzvNpQC
csmamma ParticipantThanks Ladies! Some of these you’ve mentioned we’ve read, and the others I’ll be sure to check into. So far ds’s list for this year includes:
- Assumptions that Affect Our Lives
- Seven Men Who Rule the World From the Grave
- Mere Christianity
- Lamplighters “Ishmael”
Any other suggestions would surely be helpful. Thanks again! Heather
missceegee ParticipantIshmael is my all time favorite book, ever. The sequel Self-Raised should be on your shelf to begin right when your son finishes Ishmael or you’ll hear complaints.
Mere Christianity is also a must read, imo.
csmamma ParticipantThanks, Christy! I’ll be sure to add Self-Raised to the list. I can’t wait to read both of these classics myself. Blessings…
