I just finished working my way through the 5 steps for next year. I made my to-buy list and if I buy everything on Amazon it will be under $200. If I score some great used deals it will be less.

I was overwhelmed with planning at first because last year we were dead broke and I started the year literally only spending $30 on a few books that were not available at the library or online. My husband started his own business and we have been so blessed. I noticed that I was leaning more towards buying expensive curriculum and guides since my homeschool budget was much larger this year. I started thinking about how wonderful this past year has been without boxes to check or a curriculum guide telling me we were behind. I also considered how since I had so little money I bought only the very best books and prioritized.

I wadded up all my notes and scratches and wrote down only the books we wanted to use and used the 5 steps in the planner to schedule them. I chose the best books I could, and chose to have less books of better quality so we can go slowly and savor them.

Voila. Done. I will buy my books in increments over the summer. We still have a summer half-tern to complete but I like to have the whole summer to buy books so I can budget it across the months.

I’m so relieved. I also have to promise myself not to look at any curriculum or other guides until next year. (Yeah, right…) My only other expense will be if I choose to purchase a formal Spanish curriculum. Not sure about that yet. We use Salsa right now and I might just continue this wonderful FREE program 🙂

Be encouraged ladies, there is an end! lol!

Congratualtions! I have my planning nearly done as well. Everything is even in the house, I’m just planning out what to do when. Yay!

I hear you on not looking at any more curriculum guides or neat books – I may be tempted to buy them.

Congrats! I’m still planning, but that’s OK, I love the planning.

I have a wish list and I have about 4 things on it left to buy.

Me too!! In fact, I was going to start a thread of my own, but I figured yours would work. Here is the plan for next year: http://todayindietzville.blogspot.com/2012/06/our-2012-2013-curriculum.html.

Would ya’ll mind letting me know what you think?

Lindsey, I am also planning to use Real Food Nutrition for Kids for science. Although I am planning on just half the year, and then some God’s Design chemistry for the other half. We’ll see how that works out. 😉 I still need to purchase the nutrition course and am trying to track down several other things from my list, yet.

Yeah, Melissa, I don’t think Real Food and Nutrition for Kids is going to be enough for the entire year, but it will get us started. I’m so excited about it! I bought it recently when the Real Foodies were having a 25% off sale, so I got it for $15! Not bad!

I am mostly done… have a few details to work out…. still not sure if we are going to continue trying to learn German, or if we would switch to French which I know more of, and have more resources available…. but then my son has been counting and stuff in German…. so will probalby keep at it….   Also not sure what to do for our ASL, as they are getting pretty good at basic vocabulary with Signing Time, but I want more…. but I think that ASLU might be a bit much.

I am trying to figure out the logistics of how the day is going to go…

Yea Tara! I’ll bet you’ll spend less than you’ve budgeted since you’re buying over the summer, you’ll be able to look for good deals.

My planning for next year feels like it’s been taking forever, it’s not really. I’ve done it as I can squeeze it in once or twice a week for the last month or so. I’m just ready to be done with it and do something else. Kinda like washing half a window once a week…you get tired of looking at the other dirty ones and just want them all done. Ugh. Thanks for the cheering reminder that there is an end!

Congrats to everyone else too! (And Lindsey your plan looks very nice! Have fun with science…just think cooking can be school. Who hoo! That is if you like kids in the kitchen when you cook… mine need to be a bit older, even though they mean well, eggs on the floor are no fun. Although I was the last person to drop one! Frown)

Great Tara! I am in the middle of planning..my mind is spinning..but the worse is I can’t make up my mind on what books for the boys to read by themselves!

Lindsey, we are going to read the Chronicles this yr as well! Is that your only read aloud lit? 🙂 I seem to want to do everything!

suzikimom, our local recreation center offers ASL classes at varying levels. You might check with your town or county and see if this might be an option. I will be looking into this once our youngest child is a few years older. They encourage adults to take it with their children if they are under a certain age.

Oh and congrats to those done planning. I feel like the more I get into, the farther I have to go to get done.

I am planning for so many at so many different levels. I also am trying to tie up some loose ends from this year.

Note to self: keep a better master list of field trips, days off, etc. Embarassed

Other than Baby Sign or a Toddler Signing class (which we did a few years ago) – they only have ASL classes here for adults.  There is nothing inbetween… sigh.

Sorry Suzikimom, any chance you could find a private tutor? Might be worth a shot. Oh and some of the churches here have ASL classes. Not sure though if they are just for adults, but the ones I know of don’t require people to be members. It is more offered as a community service by some of the really large churches which have Deaf Ministries.

Suzukimom, I did just google and find this. I’m going to bookmark. They even have video demonstrations. It is free.

I’ve started my five step planning process; I need to get moving, as I want to start te new year in July. It is always fun to see how things will hopefully come together. Happy planning, all.
