my 7yo daughter is reading every book she gets. Now they are all at her level but she is sounding out all the words. We only went through part of phonics pathways. do i need to continue on with the book or just keep her reading?
I have heard to let them just go with it unless/until you see her stall a bit in the gradual increase in reading level that should be occuring. Then you go back and do a little more instruction until she starts taking off again.
Thank you so much!! We are super excited about this school year!

IMHO, reading/phonics are the most important academic skill that we can teach our kids. So many kids today cannot read past a 5th grade level because they were rushed through phonics. I would definitley continue the phonics through the end of 3rd grade. We want our kids to grow slow, like oak trees, and have a solid undertstanding of phonics. It lays the foundation of learning everything else.
We use a 3 year phonics program called Teaching America to Read and Spell. It does not have a lot of bells and whistles but is really great.
That is just my opinion
