    Hi There,

I’m considering using this as our “spine” for world history for my will be 10th grade daughter.  She has read some of the books suggested in the literature.  But I’m wondering how you use it and how you like it?  Are there any other books that you have added that have enriched your experience with the curriculum?

    Thanks so much!  Betty

    Hi Betty,

I’m glad you posted this question – since, we too, are almost sure to use this curriculum next year. I plan to omit  some of the lit suggestions since we’ve also read a few of them previously and a couple others ds would not be ready for, such as Lewis’ work The Abolition of Man. We’ll also be adding in a few of the literature selections from MFW-HS including – Cry, the Beloved Country, Silas Marner, and Hudson Taylors Spiritual Secrets. Also plan on adding a few classic films such as Pride & Prejudice and the Hiding Place. I look forward to hearing responses.

We have used it, but not as it was meant to be used.  I did not issue three credits for it, just 1 world history credit.  We  study directly from the Bible so it was not necessary.  We did not use the literature credit either, as we had already read a lot of the books on the list and so we continued with our own literature list.  We found the history portion enjoyable and used it alongside various other books for the total credit, along with essays and things.  We did not use the quiz book, we did written narrations – of each section.  We did the same with the Notgrass US History – which we read alongside Paul Johnson’s US History book, we have also used Paul Johnson’s Modern Times which we found really good.  We are avid history readers and wanted to read lots of history, so that was a big focus for us.  We also made a list of books for World, US and British authors and have been reading through them over the years so that we have a variety of literature which is for that credit.  This is perhaps not the best information, but I will say we enjoyed the narrative of the Notgrass books, we also have their Government and Economics courses as well, along with their original source books – so you know we are fans.  I think you will enjoy them however you use them – and I do recommend them.  Linda
